Snowboarding in Europe

Sölden - it is a lot more than a glacier!

The glacier ski resort Sölden is not a number one early season destination because there is no huge terrain park like in close by Kaunertal during pre-season. However those looking for fun and excellently groomed trails to draw first curves into the snow are certainly well catered to in Sölden. And once the ski and boarding season begins Sölden rocks! The Swatch Terrain Park (located between Giggijoch und Rotkogeljoch) offers excellent conditions for all ability levels. The park is separated in a beginners section and a pro section with some really challenging obstacles. A highlight is a huge screen at the bottom of the park where the latest jumps are being shown live.
Those who prefer ungroomed terrain to terrain parks also get their moneys worth in Sölden. The Gaislachkogel offers an abundance of steeps to dive into. Those that still lack in powder experience can improve their technique at the easier Giggijoch before venturing into more challenging terrain. If the resort lacks snow you can transfer to the glacier easily. However it is recommendable to venture onto glacier ground only in company of a guide as crevasses are no exception, especially at the Rettenbachferner. And after your day out in the park and on the slopes has not exhausted you, go check out the legendary apres ski in the valley!
